The Beatfreaks are a three-man electronic music trio from London, U.K., formed in 2000 by Peter Litchfield (Lix), Anthony Pelekanou, and Brian Johnson (Bizzy B).
Over the past 20+ years, the unmistakable Beatfreaks sound has featured in DJ sets across UK Garage, Breaks, Dubstep, and broader electronic music genres. Their discography includes 23 single releases, 15 major-label compilation features, and the acclaimed Bass Anthology album.
Their most iconic track, Speakerbox, was championed by legendary DJ EZ and subsequently signed by EMI Music. Other classics include the pirate-radio hit Original Badboy and fan favorites Switch, Fire, and Twelves. The trio has also remixed DJ Luck & MC Neat’s Top 40 track Irie and Second Protocol’s chart smash Basslick.
Beatfreaks music continues to be celebrated in both retro and contemporary DJ sets, and original vinyl copies of their releases are highly sought after.
In 2018, popular electronic music DJ Francesco Del Garda revived interest in the 2003 Beatfreaks track Test Press, with original pressings trading for over £100. The track caught the attention of several independent labels and was eventually licensed to Dr Banana, releasing on 10″ vinyl in October 2019. The vinyl sold out within days of pre-order, followed by a digital release in February 2020.
May 2020 saw the release of Speakerbox 4/4, a VIP dubplate mix of the Beatfreaks classic featuring a unique Mozart piano intro. This was followed by remastered releases of other back-catalog tracks, including Switch in 2024 and Jazzflex in 2026, with plans to remaster the entire Beatfreaks catalog for digital release. New material is also in the works.
2026 marks the 26th year of Beatfreaks music—a legacy of innovation, energy, and enduring influence in electronic music.
